“It’s time to renew your CFI. So why should you renew with us?”

When it comes to renewing your CFI there are several FIRC options (King Schools, Gleim, American Flyers, ASA, and ASI to name a few). As a result, you’re probably asking yourself: “With so many options what makes our course better?”

Here’s the answer:

We work harder to exceed your expectations by delivering more value for your dollar than any of our competitors. Our FAA-Approved online Flight Instructor Refresher Course (FIRC) is more interesting, convenient, and cost-effective than any other FIRC. Here’s what I mean:

These are five reasons why our course is a better choice than any other FIRC available, and why you should choose to renew with us:

1. Pay Once and Renew Forever:savemoney

Our course costs the same as any other FIRC ($99.95). However, when you pay for our course you can retake it year-after-year without EVER paying again. Other courses charge you again-and-again every two years to keep your flight instructor certificate active. Not us.

When you purchase our course you can keep your certificate active for your entire lifetime, and never pay again. This will literally save you hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars over your flying career.

The only fee you have the choice to pay is our ACR Service fee of $25.00 (explained in Reason #2 below). You would only have to pay this fee if you chose to receive your Temporary Airman Certificate by email, through our online service, as opposed to working through a FSDO. This is entirely up to you since it is possible to receive your Temporary Airman Certificate through your local FSDO by making an appointment, or through the mail if the FSDO grants you permission. However, working through the FSDO is more time consuming than using our service, because it typically involves traveling to the FSDO in person and filling out a Form 8710 by hand. As a result, many people elect to pay for our ACR Service for the convenience.

If you do your research (and we highly encourage you to do so), you will find that $25.00 for ACR Service is pretty standard for online FIRCs. They typically charge around $100 for the course and $25 for ACR service. Some FIRCs simply charge $125 for their course, but include ACR service with the price (effectively costing the same amount, but not offering the choice to withdraw the service). However, most of these FIRCs do not let you retake the course every two years without paying again. Rather, in most instances, you would need to pay the entire price of $100 for the course and $25 for ACR Services every time you retook their course. With us, you don’t need to pay anything for the course, and you have the choice to pay $25.00 for ACR Services (only if you would like to).

On the contrary, our course costs $99.95, and our optional ACR Service is $25.00. If you purchased them both the first time it would cost $124.95 total. After that, you can come back, year-after-year and retake the course without paying anything. However, if you chose to receive our ACR Service you would only need to pay $25.00 each time.

2. Zero Paperwork:

If you choose to purchase our ACR services (for $25.00) you will receive your temporary airman certificate by email within a few days after completing the course. You won’t have to visit the FSDO or fax, notarize, mail, print, or fill out any paperwork.nopaperwork

Everything is handled entirely online, and the process is simple, straight-forward, and extremely convenient.  Just be sure to have the appropriate web browser and digital images of your ID and Flight Instructor’s certificate.  Here’s how it works:

When you complete the course you will submit an electronic application for a new Flight Instructor certificate in the FAA’s Integrated Airman Certification and Rating Application (IACRA) system. This is a simple process which only takes a few minutes, and we provide very clear step-by-step directions (to include a video recording of the process) to help you do this.  (Note: IACRA supports the following web browsers: Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.  Apple’s Safari and Google’s Chrome browsers are currently NOT supported.  Before starting application process, be sure to have an appropriate browser installed.)

Once you have submitted the application, being sure to have handy a digital image of your ID and the front and back of your Flight Instructor certificate (which can be captured with a digital camera, smart phone, or scanner), our ACR team will review your application and send you an email to let you know when your application is ready for your electronic signature. Once you’ve signed the application in IACRA (once again, a very simple process), we will send you your Temporary Airman Certificate by email. From there, you can print it out and use it immediately. Your permanent certificate will arrive in the mail a few weeks later (depending on how fast the FAA can process it).

NOTE ABOUT ACR SERVICES: Our ACR team works diligently to deliver your Temporary Airman Certificate within three business days after you begin the ACR process. In many cases, we can have it to you the same day (if there are no mistakes on your end). However, if you do not give our ACR team at least 3 business days to process your certificate prior to its expiration date we cannot guarantee you will renew your certificate in time.

3. It’s a FIRC that’s actually interesting:

Most people dread taking a FIRC. It’s that “once every two years” inconvenience that flight instructors feel like “they just have to get over with” in order to keep their certificates. To be completely honest with you, I can’t blame them.

That’s because many times FIRCs are extremely boring. They typically involve clicking through page-after-page of monotonous and mind-numbing information that doesn’t help them become better flight instructors.

To me, that’s a pretty sad state of affairs, and I’ll tell you why.

First off, I look at the FIRC as an opportunity to connect with a pretty impressive group of folks: Certified Flight Instructors (CFIs).

In my opinion, CFIs have an awesome responsibility, and the ability to connect with people who are motivated, happy, and excited to pursue a dream they’ve had in their minds since they were kids: learning to fly.

Not only that, CFIs are given a lot of power, and very often possess a wide breadth of knowledge and expertise that isn’t available to the general public.cfi

Because of all this, the FIRC is an opportunity to present information that is both interesting and beneficial to the CFI.

What kind of information? Read on, and I’ll tell you.

Many other FIRCs focus on regurgitating information you’ve already learned (like the “TOMATO FLAMES” acronym, or VFR weather minimums for Class D airspace, or the difference between “clear” and “rime” icing, etc.).

Now, of course some review of these topics makes sense (after all it is a flight instructor REFRESHER course). However, focusing too much on basic review, at the expense of expanding the knowledge base, doesn’t do much for the CFI. Not only that, it gets boring quickly and usually results in people “zoning out”, and not getting much, if anything, from the course.

On the contrary, our FIRC presents information in a way similar to an article in an aviation magazine (as opposed to the typical list of bulleted facts that become dull after a few pages).

For example, we incorporate aviation accident cases from the NTSB database as well as the Aviation Safety Reporting System (ASRS) into our course. We dissect and evaluate what caused the accidents, how they could have been prevented, and incorporate as many learning points into the discussion as we can. This approach is not only better at teaching (because the information is presented in a context that makes sense) it’s also a lot more interesting.

Additionally, we introduce the field of “Human Factors” to understand, and interpret, how pilots interact with their aircraft and the surrounding environment. This is important because very often accidents (or deviations) are attributed to the vague and in-actionable term “pilot error”, and not much else is done to figure out what actually happened. Human Factors is a field of study which aims to de-mystify “pilot error” and determine what caused the error in the first place. That way, something can actually be done to prevent the error from happening again.

That’s just a small snapshot of the types of interesting, useful, and beneficial information you can expect to see in our FAA-Approved online Flight Instructor Refresher Course (FIRC). Our full list of lessons is included below:

“I just completed your FIRC training and it was as good or better than you promised! In the past I attend a weekend seminar to renew my CFI and according to my wife returned home grumbling that it was a waste of time and that I’d learned nothing. It was due to her push that I signed up for your program after she saw your post card in the mail. She was right – I had nothing to lose and everything to gain by giving your course a try. With each lesson, I learn new information – a welcome change from the seminar experience of the past. The format is great, providing not just the information but also its source and applicability to being a CFI. I will be recommending your course to all of my CFI friends.” -Marty P.

“I just wanted to let you know how pleased I have been with your course.  I will admit that I was just a little leery of signing up as you were the new boy on the block and I thought I might run into a glitch here or there due to possible bugs in your system.  However, everything went smoothly and I am glad I decided to give your course a try.  Also, being able to take subsequent FIRC courses at no charge and  just pay for the ACR processing in the future was a big incentive.  I have been taking FIRC courses online for many years and  I would highly recomend your course to anyone.” -Terry S.
